Amazon Patents Gender Stereotyping?

theodp writes "All Harvard president Larry Summers got for discussing gender stereotyping was grief. Amazon managed to get a patent. In the 'Summary of the Invention' for Assisting users in purchasing items, Amazon tells the USPTO that 'if the purchased toy is a dress for a doll, it may be inferred that the recipient is a girl' and later notes that 'pink or pastel colored gift wrapping may be suggested first' for girls' gifts."
