FTC Warns That Anti-Spyware Laws Won't Do Crap
from the nice-try dept
The FTC did warn before CAN SPAM that it wouldn't do anything, and now they're saying the same thing about anti-spyware laws. They're telling Congress that they're better off leaving things alone. They point out that most of the really bad spyware already violates fraud and deception laws. Of course, the real issue is enforcement. Right now, while fighting spyware in Congress may look good for politicians, no one's made it a real priority for the FTC to actually do anything about it.
