Level 3 Dials Up Sprint Deal
from the sure,-we-like-shrinking-businesses... dept
Sprint is probably thrilled to get out of the business, but apparently, Level 3 believes there's still money to be made in selling wholesale dialup services to ISPs. Level 3 has announced that they're purchasing Sprint's wholesale dialup business -- which is still quite a large business, but which is likely to keep shrinking as the world goes broadband. In the announcement, Level 3 insists that they don't think dialup is going to shrink, though, they do admit it's a "maturing" business. There's nothing wrong with being in mature businesses if they can generate cash for a while. The real question is how long the business will keep up, and there are plenty of indicators suggesting that customers are abandoning dialup pretty rapidly.
