Disposable Paper Computers

from the age-of-abundance dept

In the age of disposable everything, it shouldn't be a huge surprise that a company is now offering disposable computers. It's not as crazy as it sounds. These are very low powered devices, basically designed to do one thing only. They're currently being used in pharmaceutical packaging and courier services for data collection, in combination with RFID chips, but there are a variety of other uses as the devices get cheaper and more powerful. The company, Cypak, is selling them to OEMs for about $1 a device. Of course, some might say that this is really just a marketing ploy, as all the company really has done is mount a chip on paper... and then called it a disposable computer.
