The Darkest Side Of ID Theft
from the much-worse-than-bad-credit dept
For the most part, when people talk about the awful after effects of being a victim of identity theft, they're talking about their ruined credit ratings, and the many hours/days/weeks/months wasted trying to clear up their good name and good credit. MSNBC, however, is running a story saying that it gets much worse for some people - where criminals start using victims' names for other crimes, beyond just destroying their credit. In particular, they talk about one guy who is repeatedly arrested for crimes he didn't commit due to an identity theft problem. Despite the number of times he's "cleared" his name, it still shows up in police computers, and he's likely to get arrested each and every time he gets a driving ticket.
