For PC Buying, A New Picture
from the gotta-sell-more-PCs dept
It's been discussed many times recently that consumers just don't see the reason to upgrade their PC any more. While it used to be standard to get a new computer every three years or so, most machines these days are "good enough" for the applications out there - and some are even predicting an average PC lifetime of eight years. Of course, PC makers don't want to hear such talk, so the NY Times claims they're banking on new entertainment applications that will demand ever more computing resources. These are things like advanced 3D gaming, videos, photos and more. Of course, it still remains to be seen if consumers can get over the hurdle of thinking of their computer as more of an entertainment center.
