Internet Firms Seek Limits On Privacy Law

Minnesota recently (and with what seems like very little fanfare) passed an internet privacy law requiring ISPs to give their customers a list of all the info they kept about them. However, not surprisingly, ISPs are upset with the requirements and are doing their best to fight the law which is to go into effect March 1. The ISPs say they have no problem with the idea of protecting online privacy, but feel that the specific details of this law put too much of a burden on them. One lobbyist who is in favor of the law points out that if the police asked for the information, it would be handed over right away, so why shouldn't the same be true if a customer asks for their own information?
