Supreme Court Ends Stay On DeCSS Jurisdiction Ruling

Earlier this week we had the story of the Supreme Court looking at the California Supreme Court ruling saying that a student in Indiana (now living in Texas) couldn't be tried by California for posting the DeCSS code used for descrambling DVD encryption. For some reason, most news stories only picked up on that story today - which is a bit late, because the Supreme Court has already changed its mind and ended the stay preventing the guy from posting the code on his website. Most people believe this means the Supreme Court won't be looking at the case at all, and they were convinced by the guy's lawyers that everything was fine with the original ruling. The lawyers pointed out, among other things, the DeCSS code was available all over the internet already, and preventing him from posting it to his website did little to help anyone other than Hollywood lawyers.
