China As An Economic Leader

from the how-they-got-there dept

Two different articles that are made even more interesting by reading them together. The first is an AP piece talking about how China has become a regional economic powerhouse, especially in manufacturing, even while still having some "developing nation" problems. It talks about how quickly China changed from a planned community to more of a capitalist market (though, they call it a "socialist market economy". Then, read this article from Wired Magazine that talks about a bunch of Taiwanese businessmen who have opened up manufacturing plants in China's Pearl River Delta. It's clear this isn't the most stable of economies - but at the same time, it clearly can't be ignored either.
