Radio Killed The Radio Star

from the consolidation-at-work dept

A former editor for a radio trade magazine (that went out of business) went to the recent National Association of Broadcasters convention to find out what they thought of the state of radio today. He was amazed at how out of touch they all seemed. Most seemed to believe that there was more diversity on the radio today than there had been in the past - and that it was better for everyone. Apparently, none of them actually turn on the radio to pick through their choices of pre-programmed Clear Channel packaged radio programming. They also seem to believe that it really doesn't matter - because radio "always" survives. Yet another reason why I don't listen to the radio at all.

Don't confuse shitty US radio with what some of the rest of us have. I don't know anyone who doesn't listen to the radio at some time here in the UK.

Why, in a country where you have supermarket aisles dedicated to 47 different kinds of milk because choice is clearly a good thing (TM), is there so little choice in entertainment?
