Is That A Router In Your Pocket?
from the more-junk-to-carry-around dept
Back in December we first talked about what IXI Mobile was doing though the only informatin we saw at that point was very confusing. Here's an article that gives a bit more details, now that they've finally demonstrated what they're doing. It is similar to what we were guessing. You have a core, portable router/server device that is the size of a "tin of mints" and can fit in someone's pocket. Then, any bluetooth-enabled device you have can connect to that router in your pocket, and you let the router handle things like the wireless connection to your service provider. This makes it possible (in theory) to make a number of inexpensive devices, that all can use the pocket router/server for access. I'm still not sure it will catch on, but it is an intriguing idea.
