10 Years At Microsoft

Salon is running a review of Adam Barr's book, Proudly Serving My Corporate Masters, about his ten years as a programmer at Microsoft. The book, which has been out for a while now, sounds pretty interesting, in that it's the views of a programmer, and not a hotshot executive. He talks about how he feels about how Microsoft goes about its business (he thinks they get ahead by hiring smart people, as opposed to flexing monopoly muscle) and compares it to what's happening in the Linux world (he's a fan of Linux, too). I've always thought that the more interesting books about what's happening in the technology world would come from people who were actually doing the work, as opposed to the execs at the top who view things in a very different way.
