Jon Johansen Indicted For DeCSS
from the oh,-come-on dept
Sometimes you really have to wonder when people are going to get a clue. As has been showing up everywhere, here's the story of Jon Johansen being indicted for creating DeCSS. DeCSS has caused so many problems for no reason. Johansen wrote DeCSS so he could watch DVDs that he owned on his Linux system. He hasn't been accused of actually breaking any copyright laws - but because DeCSS could be used to do so, the industry has attacked him. Since they knew they couldn't get him on copyright violations, the Norwegian government is charging him with computer break-in. Hopefully a judge will realize how stupid this is.
