Thinking Inside The Box
from the going-in-the-other-direction dept
For the past few years there were people talking about how boxed software was dead, and how ASPs were the way that all software was going to be delivered from now on. Of course, the people saying all that forgot to check one thing: did customers actually want ASP solutions? Sure, some do, but not everyone seems to. So, now it's newsworthy to find out that an ASP like NetLedger has decided to go in the other direction, and are now offering their ASP solution in a box at office supply stores. If other companies follow on this strategy, I wonder if Salesforce.com is going to have to change their "no more software" chant.
