Drexel University Students To Use Speech Recognition Software

from the hello,-bad-grammar dept

Drexel University is providing all of its students with Dragon's speech recognition software. It's an interesting concept, and I wish someone felt like giving me free speech recognition software when I was back in college. Thare are still a few potential problems that I see, though. No matter what they say, I still haven't seen speech recogntion that's that good yet. I get the feeling there may be lots of papers turned in with very weird "there/they're/their" "I/eye" etc. mixups. Also, when I think back to my college days, I'm not sure how useful this would have been as I often had roommates who probably wouldn't want to hear me speak my papers outloud.

Yeah, Mike. I think we would've gone nuts if you orally transcribed every paper you wrote in college. Also, I don't think your old Dell was up to the challenge... :)
