Motorola Calls on Linux for Smart Phone

Motorola, like Samsung, is hedging its bets on smartphone OSs. Motorola is one of the founding members of the Symbian consortium, but just announced plans for a new Linux-powered handset due to launch later this year in Asia. At this stage everyone seems it be fighting for the hearts and minds of developers. They have a lot of choices, but few platforms have yet to show any significant traction. Personally, I don’t think Motorola will do very well with this product. To date their phone UI design has always struck me a kludgey, it’s nowhere as nice as Nokia or even Microsoft’s not-so-hot smartphone interface. But that’s just my opinion.
