Barry Sonnenfeld, The Telecommuting Director
from the why-leave-the-home? dept
I was recently reading a book of interviews with famous film directors that included an interview with Barry Sonnenfeld, which makes him out to be a fairly interesting guy (he never really wanted to direct, but just ended up becoming a director anyway). Now, Business 2.0 has an article talking about Sonnenfeld’s technology obsession (and it is an obsession – he carries around 3 mobile phones, 5 PDAs, a laptop with a wireless card, and a two-way text messaging pager) and the fact that he now edits his movies 3,000 miles away from Hollywood. The article details the various technologies he uses to edit the films while collaborating with actors and companies across the country (such as ILM to do the special effects for MIB II). As an aside, I was wondering if this article was a demonstration of AOL-Time Warner’s (owners of Business 2.0) convergence as they covered a story about the maker of a Warner Brothers’ movie… but it turns out MIB II is a Sony Pictures film. Oh well.
