I bought a property in Mexico over 10 years ago for $55,000. We are selling it now for about 2x that. So, how do I get to "repatriate" my $$ without being held up by the US government? I don't have a problem with the long term capital gains taxes (still 10% I think) on the profits (about $5500), but since these assholes seem to think that anything over about $100 cash is "drug money"... I am thinking that I will have the bank wire me about $5000 per month. Not sure if that is going to keep them from stealing my money, but I know for sure that I can't just stick it in my bag and fly it back!
Just maybe, if you sleep with your head directly in contact with your WiFi AP and its antennas, and it is very active, then there may be a problem. And tell me, what is the likelihood of that? About zero? My AP is in my office in the basement. My wife's is in her office, upstairs. We aren't close to either, and neither is anyone else!
If I get brain cancer attributable to my proximity to these devices, then I may change my mind, but I DO understand the inverse square law of radiation - double the distance, 1/4 of the radiation. This is immutable. It is science (even if you don't believe in science). FWIW, my father was a physicist, as is my wife. Smart people run in our families.
Heck, attorneys work by the hour. If the D wants to pay them their $400-500 per hour (or more) to assuage his ego, then go for it dudes (and dudettes)! I have an attorney who would be happy to take on the case. Win or lose, he still gets paid!
Let's face it - the US government's IT infrastructure is actually controlled by proprietary interests. Can you spell Microsoft and ilk? Insecure? Yes. Costly? Definitely. Unable to adapt to changes in the environment? Duh! NO governmental agency should require documents in a proprietary format (PDF, MS Word, etc), but should require ALL submitted documents be provided in an open source form. Anything else is stealing from the American public, simply by telling us we have to purchase over-priced, proprietary tools in order to communicate with our own government! This is theft, pure and simple, and it must stop!
2231 hours to do a database query? Or search a raft of server files? Heck, if I couldn't do it in 20 hours (2 1/2 days), I would not be earning my keep, which is about $70 / hour as a contractor on a W2 basis. Computer clock time of 6694 hours? Don't be absurd! Do do all of this would take about 1 hour of CPU time, and probably 2-3 days of engineering time. WHAT RIP OFFS!
If I invested $167K in blue chip stocks for 2 years, that would add another $16-17K in gains - like the 4-5% per year I get from my Intel stock! That does not count the appreciation in the value of the stock itself!
A person who's brain stopped working the the 19th Century should not be allowed to sit on the FCC board in the 21st Century! Anyone who believes that the Internet is not necessary to life in this era is not qualified to judge goats at a local county fair, let alone to pass judgment on the FCC!
I will be selling a property in Mexico that I purchased (I have the contract in hand) for $55,000 over 10 years ago. I am selling it, and I will get about twice that, for a $50,000+ profit after Mexican taxes, attorneys fees, etc. So, I will have about $110,000 to bring back. I think I will have my attorney there wire me about $5,000 per month, which I will declare 1/2 of as long term capital gains. At least I won't be robbed by the US Border Patrol or DEA, or Texas State Police!
This is what happens when the technologically clueless have the power to determine how we use tech. In any case, Oracle is going to SORELY regret that they pushed this so far! Gee, do Codd and Date hold rights to the relational algebra and calculus used to create the Oracle RDB API's?
Free speech is free speech. If you don't like it, don't listen to it! But DO NOT LIMIT IT! There are, as always, exceptions to this rule. If the speech is an incitement to riot or harm to others, then there are specific laws that limit it. IE, saying "I hate all ... (insert favorite minority here)" is protected under the First Amendment. Saying "Let's kill all ... (insert favorite minority here)" is not, or should not be. Beware the slippery slope!
It amazes me that these DOJ idiots (there is no better term to describe them) actually still have licenses to practice law, and are allowed to work for the US Federal Government in any capacity! They are supposed to work for US, the citizens of the USA, and not commercial interests! Somehow, they must have skipped that class in law school.
