My personal philosophy is that in public forums I use my real name to identify myself. It keeps me honest. It keeps me from saying things I would not say to someone's face. I understand that there are people who do not want to do that and that's ok and it's their right. I understand there might be some inherent risk to myself, but I find that if I don't pay attention to the trolls they can't bother me. Also, my photo and identifying information is all available on LinkedIn and my companies' website so really people could harass me anyway. The worst someone called me was a "libtard" and the worst said about me was that it looked like I ate too much chocolate cake. It was a racist comment, but that says more about the person saying it than it does about me. If they come to my door with harassment and threats then I've got lots of ways to take care of that. I don't open texts or emails from people I know in real life that are mean or harassing and I handle myself the same way online. It's amazing what ignoring a meanie can do!!!

Someone mentioned a shredding company above and if the government could get a hold of the documents with a warrant. 1) They might be able to, but a judge might not let it into court. 2) This would be more akin to getting a warrant for your documents after they've been shredded and asking the shredding company to paste them back together.
