    It's already been done. Look at Rockchip and Allwinner and who has invested in them after they started producing better and cheaper copies of computer chips.

    Not being altruistic

    We Japanese don't have an altruistic bone in our bodies. It's wonderful that Toyota has in one fell swoop ensured that their cars will be dominant in the coming years.

    As many of the small manufacturers of automobiles start to use and make improvements to Toyota's original designs the prices of engine parts will go down. As improvements occur Toyota's R&D people will be able to cherry pick amongst what works best and make improvements of their own.

    The oil industry is going to have to make major changes in their operations. They will have to push their R&D people to figure out how to extract Hydrogen economically from water. And how to do it without leaving mountains of impurities behind.

    The next thing they're going to need to figure out is how to deliver, store and safely pump the Hydrogen into the car's "gas tank"

    Best yet, this is not limited to just autos and cars. Now that the patents are out there, there is potential for this technology to be implemented in ships, aircraft, large scale and portable power generation (abayo genshiryoku hatsudensho) and just about everything that currently makes use of an engine built by Toyota.

    You are definitely on to something there. We have 1G bps service here in Japan and everyone who is on NTT or KDDI lines has access to it. So, guess what, cable is next to non-existent here in Japan. Time shifting and removing commercials here is still an official nono, downloading is also frowned upon and uploading of any commercial content is a very bad thing in Japan-we blame it on Sony. Guess we have a ways to go here.

    Of course they can't stand up to N Korea. The Great Leader is holding the ashes of all the Japanese the N Koreans kidnapped hostage. Abe has promised to get these remains returned and Sony going after the evil Kitachosenjin is not part of his plans.

    What's good for the goose

    Having given this some thought it occurs to me that any code that might be enabled to erase so called pirates, copyright infringers and whoever else the AA's deem bad can be turned against them. A dedicated group such as Anonymous could conceivably erase a big studio like Sony from existence long enough to bring them to their financial knees or erase all trace of Comcast's offerings, support, sales and internet backbone for as long as they wanted.

    Remember everything that can be conceived by these people is a two edged sword.

    Here's where the US judicial system has gone very wrong. Your chief means of oversight of the lawyers in a state is a politician. We all know what politicians are like. They'll feed off stuff no self respecting zombie would and do things that would shame a sewer rat. It's no wonder the USA is so fucked up!

    I expect we'll see the top level people in Sony stand up and sorrowfully bow, offer their profound apologies and temporarily step down. At which point the uyoku and the bōryokudan step in and quietly ensure that the shareholders say nothing upsetting. It's the Japanese way.

    Sony is that stupid. I've met some of the people at the head office here in Tokyo and they are typical Japanese "shachoo" types=their word is law even if they are being shortsighted and wrong.

    Akio Morita's ashes must be churning in their urn. He'd never condone Sony's actions if he was still at the helm.

    The police are too busy killing Americans of colour, beating up pregnant women and children, harrassing and intimidating the people taking video of them beating up pregnant women and children and killing Americans of colour.

    The FBI are too busy hatching plans for false acts of terrorism, covering up CIA and NSA fuckups and cvolluding with the idiots from TSA and Homeland Security.

    The CIA and NSA are too busy waterboarding terrorists, conducting ineffective torture campaigns, listening in on the millions of recorded phone calls they collect every day,watching sites like Techdirt and collecting enough information on Mike Masnick to enable their corporate masters to send him to Gitmo.

    Who's going to file the documentation to arrest the MPAA and the RIAA perps?

    Not the various state and federal AG's and judges-they're too busy taking handouts from the AA's.

    Not the many Senators and Congress people who have been bought off by the lobbyists.

    In short, it's not going to happen.

    And again the Harper Gov't has outdone itself in sucking up to the US.

    I notice that 7 judges voted, that means two of them abstained from participating in the vote. When a Canadian Supreme abstains from making their opinion known that means there is something rotten in Inuvik.

    I also expect we'll see an upsurge in Blackberry sales especially for the upgraded BES encryption.

    IME the Chinese don't make any bones about it. They aren't subtle about asking for a bribe. And yes, there's a list of rates made up by the Chinese detailing the amounts needed to buy a Chinese official.

    Being that I come from a country where the people who fill the same role as the AG in the USA are appointed by the crown and am now living in a country where similar rules apply.

    Seriously, what's the big deal? All Americans are corrupt.

    Every non American knows that for a fact. That US politicians are corrupt is so well known has led the Chinese to publish a list of rates covering how much it costs to bribe each level of American snivel serpent.
