It's kind of sad considering how digital-friendly the NHL has been recently in terms of allowing game clips on youtube, posting all their highlights and allowing remixes, etc. etc.
its odd because i heard the 80k warehouse members back in 2003.

it is free to tape and distribute (for free) ALL concert shows.
thats true that the GD were there first in terms of fan taping. but i was talking about an artist approved repository of shows. do grateful dead fans have one?
They sell a shit ton of merch. it is ridiculous.
Also, every show has its own unique poster. This follows the scarcity idea. I believe that the average run of a poster is about 500 per venue. The really big shows have 1,000 tops I think. Each poster is high quality, silk screened & signed and numbered by the artist. People have been known to line up 3 hours early to make sure that they get a poster.
They also have a series of Live Albums (19 albums at the moment) that with the exception of 2 volumes is only available from their website.
There is also a DMBLive series that is only available for download from their site.
Coran Capshaw is a genius when it comes to merch and i wouldn't be surprised if the $200,000 is much much higher these days.
the band has always allowed taping of all of their shows for their entire history. if you look at dreamingtree.org you will find nearly EVERY show EVER performed. named me another band where you can find that.
ps. they had grass roots support long before they got a record deal. they self-released a ep and a album before they got their record deal.
i wrote a paper on the tuskegee airmen that i used in high school history (12th grade), high school english (12th grade), college composition, college history class, and adapted it to a speech for speech class.
Each time i added to it and changed things, but the basic framework was there.
so the full notice was hilarious. I kind of want to email and ask for permission and see where we go from there. too bad i know squat about poetry.
i was looking for my first dslr and i figured that if MS was going to give me $$$ back i should use live for a little bit. so i used it to do my research on the camera (nikon d40) and what ebay sotre to buy from (ended up being cameta). and now i dont feel too bad about getting a check for $183 in the mail in two months.
At my school (California state university northridge) the bookstore puts thier own stickers over the book isbn numbers and then shrinkwraps (most) of them. this can be a huge pain in the ass since i try to buy used from amazon. whats worse is when i peel a sticker off to write down the isbn number and am told that i am not allowed.
it's more like + 66% of your cable bill.
ESPN dominates all networks!!
-----
i know that it is not very recent but Buisnessweek said in mid-2004 when cox and espn were fighting over cable fees cox said that espn getsgot $2.61 a month for each subscribor. this translated to about 18% of what cox paid networks for the entire year. while it is a lot, espn is four channels (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, and ESPNews) on the basic tier.
Even if you double that to to five dollars a month it is probably nowhere near 50 or 66% of your bill
