  • Empty T-Mobile Promises Convince Texas To Back Off Merger Lawsuit

    Luckydob ( profile ), 26 Nov, 2019 @ 07:14am

    Well...

Sprint, if not acquired ("merger") by T-Mobile, will soon run out of cash. If that happens, then what? Does the Gov't auction off the spectrum to others? If that happens you are basically in a worse position with a similar result. 2 Mega carriers and 1 smaller carrier with pockets of rural providers across the USA. You still end up with 3ish nationwide carriers, but in a scenario that is dominated by only 2 in reality. If the merger goes through, you will have 3 big carriers. Rock / Hard Place and damned if you do/don't.

I'm not for mergers for the most part, but in this case it's really the best scenario outside of breaking everything up again...

Re: except ATT/DirTV are NOT paying retransmission fees

Actually Nexstar / CBS has taken the channels away from AT&T. AT&T views the costs they are asking as too much based on viewership numbers and refused to pay what they are asking for. It's a bit more complicated than that, but essentially CBS is asking for a 50% increase in fees and AT&T isn't going to do that. So, we don't have CBS / Nexstar stations. It happens all the time with AT&T, Comcast, Dish, etc... XYZ company asks for higher and higher costs per sub each and every time the contract ends. This is why cable bills are crazy expensive. We are quickly reaching the breaking point with media companies.

    Re: Re: The Important Thing

This is EXACTLY how it's supposed to be in the USA. The President of the United States of America is never chosen by popular vote. It is based on the electoral college, which is a good thing, even though it doesn't assure that the president will receive the most votes overall. It does assure that the president will have won with substantial popular support, and that support will not be limited to one region of the country or to a handful of coastal cities.

Re: As ALWAYS, Techdirt happy that drug sellers escape justice.

Hello there...in the U.S.A, EVERYONE is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. So, even by your incorrect assumption on how the 4th Amendment should be applied, it would still apply to EVERYONE.

    Have a Great Day!

    Really???

You just said that Comcast acquiring Sprint would benefit consumers more than the merger of T-Mobile and Sprint? No.

I get why people don't like him, but...a FOIA request for something like this is just a waste of everyone's time. I mean, I like fishing and all, but sometimes you just need to go to a different lake to find better fish to fry.
