So I just spent the better part of the morning reading this woman's blog and I came away feeling even more enraged about this entire situation. For the record: http://niederfamily.blogspot.com/
It's not the $7,000 that they have an issue with. If it worked and was right for their daughter then they would find the $7,000 somewhere. Judging by their home... it doesn't look like they're wealthy or even well off. Simple middle class people trying to do their daughter right.
This application works! Yes, it's an iPAD application. Who cares? IT WORKS. It is doing something none of the other solutions came anywhere near doing. And now the company is being sued?
We need to figure out who to write, who to email, and who to complain to. This is going on REDDIT and I hope it makes the front page. VIRAL IT.
Well the indictment started in 2005 so it's obviously been an on-going investigation. It was signed towards the beginning of the month so they've obviously waited to act. Getting everyone in place I would imagine.
The timing is retaliatory I imagine. It was going to happen either way.
I think you're probably talking to me. What I am saying is that they are not protected by the DMCA safe harbors if they didn't comply with the statue. The indictment seems to suggest they didn't. Which would make them liable for the other actual charges.
I'm not a lawyer. I'm just stating my personal observation.
Just because SOPA is practically dead at this point and PIPA is looking less and less likely to survive ... I strongly recommend we all stay vigilant. History repeats itself and another dangerous bill like PIPA or SOPA will rear it's ugly head again.
Guys I am reading this indictment right now and honestly I am not a lawyer but if what is in the indictment is to be believed at face value then I honestly think they were running afoul of the DMCA provisions.
Have you read the Indictment? I'm reading it right now and paragraphs 20-24 lead me to believe that they were in fact running afoul of the DMCA provisions. Please let me know what you think. This one MAY BE legitimate.
I'm an avid reader of TechDirt and other blogs. I don't usually comment here but started commenting a little yesterday.
If SOPA and PIPA pass then it is clear that our elected officials no longer represent the will of the people. Tampering with MY INTERNET crosses a line in the sand. I called my representatives yesterday. I emailed them too.
If these bills pass then I will dedicate myself to seeing this regime thrown from power. It really will become *Us-vs-Them* and will be the start of a revolution in this country. I'll do my very best to see it happen.
I will not live in a country in which my freedoms are eroded for the betterment of a corporation and dying business model. Say NO to censorship. Say YES to freedom.
I was just looking at this page on SOPA SUPPORT/OPPOSITION. It looks to me like the tide has turned against SOPA significantly.
PIPA remains a serious concern. I'll see what happens on the 24th. I'm hoping more people voice concerns on the 24th. I'll be calling and emailing on the 23rd and 24th as well. I hold TechDirt darkens their website again. I hope Wikipedia does something too. We must all work together on this.
