  You're right Mike, they aren't swayed by the letters but by the money that the industry puts in their campaign coffers.

  I don't think sites like iTunes or Amazon want to get rid of the 30 second previews but if the groups like ASCAP and BMI succeed in getting more money from them for having the previews then they either drop the previews or increase the cost of the songs.

  Just wondering...

  If Apple/Amazon/etc. have agreements to sell these songs on their sites, isn't it reasonable to think that they included in the agreement the right to use the 30 second clips to entice consumers to buy the songs?

  Well it's called a basic understanding of the English language and reading comprehension. Better, when reading about two different show, would be defined as comparative and to have a comparison you need at least two things to compare.
  
  I like to read what Mike writes, and I hope that he understands my point even if others don't. If not, it's still a fun dissection of the English language and discussion on whether or not some could be more clear in their writing.

  Actually that's pretty weak logic. If one show happens and the other doesn't, then you have no basis for comparison. You can state that a show happened and that's about it.

  ...I hope you're right Mike but let's let the event happen before calling it better. No offense to the organizers but they might not know how to run a show.
  
  Let's also hold off on saying that the bottom-up model is taking over. It still has a way to go before it has taken over but I agree that people should be helping it as much as possible.

  I was actually trying to make more of a statement that there are words that get the same point across without being inflammatory or adding drama. I should also point out that Mike was just using Mr. Coelho's words so I have to cut him some slack but it's a shame that hyberbole and sensationalism is what a person has to use today to get their point across (in some cases).

  Key Point?

  I don't think that his key point is that you'll be "punished" if you don't share your ideas but that you won't do as well as you could if you did share you're ideas.
  
  Mike, I think you're using the word "punished" very loosely to get a point across and it really just detracts from that point, IMHO.

  Trust me. I'm in business and I deal with things like this at times so I know it happens. The point though is that it shouldn't happen. We've over-legislated ourselves. Now I can't make a agreement with another party without our lawyers going over the contacts ad nausem. Maybe I'm just being nastalgic today but I do miss the days when business people ran all aspects of their businesses unlike today where lawyers have more say than they should.

  But it is an issue. It has nothing to do with knowing about subsidiaries, creditor rights, etc. and everything to do with common sense and what's become of America's legal system and the way it does business.

  1. Just because an employee violates a law doesn't immediately mean a company is liable for the actions of the employee. Especially if they have an affirmative defense such as a policy and/or procedure regarding what an employee should do in certain situations.
  
  2. Just because something can be argued doesn't mean that it should or that it actually has any merit.
  
  3. No line employee is considered to be an officer of the company.
