my understanding is that autopilot makes you keep your hands on the wheel, or it will simply pull over to the side of the road and stop. And yes, tesla very very clearly states that you are responsible for maintaining supervision over the car while in autopilot mode. No blame is being shifted. It was always the responsibility of the driver using a BETA feature that requires they pay attention to what it is doing. Surely a passenger in a similar situation would have been screaming at the driver to stop/watchout/etc.
i don't think anyone is seriously arguing that autonomous cars will get to 0 accidents, just that as soon as they are better than humans that will start saving lives and reducing costs for insurance companies. I really think it'll be the insurance companies that end up driving the adoption of autos.
and don't forget a payment(s) to cover alternate comparable living accommodations, additional travel/commuting expenses until such time as the repairs/replacement are "substantially complete" and "accepted by the owner". I'd also argue that a warranty of 5-15 years could be argued for to keep the city from simply sheetrock-ing over the mess and bidding it out to the lowest cost provider.
if you read their comment they didn't say anything about disagreeing that gravity exists, just that we do not have a 100% perfect model of it, and aren't quite sure of every mechanic involved.
As an engineer this argument comes off somewhat like the Bernoulli vs down vectoring aerodynamic lift calculation methods. I really don't care which one is "correct", just that I can use them in most "normal" cases to predict what will happen to a given wing design.
I can think of some possible useful updates to have for a car: -Updated VFD/inverter settings to increase the power output and range of the electric drive. -Updated emission controls that allow for a wider range of higher power and more fuel efficient modes. -Updates to the autonomous drive mode controls. You know because it's going to get better over the 10-20 year life of the car. -ESC control algorithms based on analysis of real world data and crash studies from other similar cars. -Driving mode updates (again for power/response and economy)
That said, I'd be happy to put a file on a USB stick and stuff it into the car and have the car ask if I want to update instead of simply downloading and installing them when I'm at home. the manufacturer could just e-mail me a notice that an update is available.
I can't pay any amount of money to get say, the BBC's UK streaming offering here in MN, USA. Same goes for BBC or SKY Formula 1 coverage. Yes, I can get the NBCSN/fox coverage here, but it's not uninterrupted, and doesn't have the same in depth commentary, so it's a different product as far as I'm concerned.
In general I'd say that most of what I'd like to buy from the UK simply isn't for sale here in the USA.
I'd happily "cut the cord", however my only options for internet here in a first tier suburb of Minneapolis, MN are 1.5mbps DSL service from century link, or 50mbps service from Comcast; you guess which one I have. So the cheapest way to get 50mbps internet from comcast is by bundling it with basic cable. The cable box has been sitting off for the last few months; the chromecast and PS4 have been doing the heavy lifting of showing moving pictures on the "TV".
As soon as I can get gigabit internet only service from someone I'll be dropping the comcast account all together, but until then i guess i look like someone still interested in pay TV.

Give Police a "stop!" button for all cars, and require manufacturers to limit the cars speed to 5MPH below the speed limit, unless it's raining then -10MPH, or snowing/icy then -25MPH, or dark -7MPH to protect drivers from exceeding their ability to drive, and to allow police to prevent you from starting a highspeed chase and getting hurt.

If the federal government wants to make internet sales taxed the simply thing to do would be to start a federal on-line sales tax for purchases where the ship to and ship-from states are different (interstate trade). The requirements of online retailers would be then to collect the federal tax, and report the ship-to state. The feds then take some % of the sales tax and pass the rest to the state.
For example; Federal internet sales tax is 10%. I buy a $100 widget from www.widgets.com. www.widgets.com charges me $110+shipping and send the $10 in tax and the state on the ship to label to the feds. The feds take 3% or $0.30 and send the remaining $9.70 to the state.
The federal law states that these payments are to be treated exactly like state sales tax collected in the state. If a state doesn't want to collect sales tax for physical locations in the state they simply need to en-act a state law that says the tax rate in the state is 0% and what to do with any money that comes from that. No change to people that live there and shop at a physical store, since the state collects no sales tax.
What this would likely encourage is major on-line retailers to set up distribution in each state and to simply move inventory between distribution centers to ensure that the ship-from address matches the ship-to state. Though I'm not sure if there already rules in place at the federal/state level to make those inventory exchanges tax-able.

actually this is more like, me suing you for going and buying a robot that someone else's replicating robot made, and then using that to make your own army of replicating robots. That first replicating robot, and the second are fine, it's the third+ that M is claiming are "BAD".
I wonder if there is some sort of "minimum scale" you need to be farming at for it to not count? Can I lease my land to 100 people for farming and then offer to farm it for them in exchange for $1 in rent, but I get 99.9% of the crops? If i get enough renters can i avoid being a "commercial" farm and remain a "series of closely spaced hobby farms"?

I would say sure, but if I had signed a multi-year contract, then surely I'm allowed to get some form of compensation when they break contract?
Also in my apartment building there are 2 providers. Centurylink and comcast. Once changes happen twice what am I supposed to do to to maintain an internet connection. These days internet is more like water or electricity than anything else. Where do you get tax forms in the analog world? (no cheating and using the internet to look it up)

Do you get optimum results in your car or could someone with hypermile-ing experience wring out a few more MPG, at least? Did it even come with instructions on how to optimize the number of miles you can drive on a tank?
