What annoys me most is when ill informed people refer to UKIP as libertarian. They are not libertarian nor anywhere near and this proves it. UKIP are full of batshit crazy members like this. One of the core tenets of libertarianism is a strong belief in freedom of speech which this UKIP member has tried to undermine.
Here is a musician who is using all of the technology available to her (as well as her considerable talent) to make a nice living from her music. Not only that but she is open about how much she makes from each service.
It is always good to hear from musicians who see online services as opportunities rather than hindrances.
Obama is the perfect example of a style over substance President. He talks a big game but cannot or will not back it up with action. Even Obamacare, which is a step in the right direction (albeit a very small one) is a watered down version of what it could have been and what Americans need. His constant pandering to corporations is not what democracy is about.
A data retention law together with existing NSA surveillance could very well see the end of many American tech companies. At least companies were able to keep no logs and then, when the authorities request data, say "sorry we don't keep that data".
Bring in a data retention law and that stops and privacy/security minded people go offshore.
I still feel sorry for the guy as he has faced quite a lot of vitriol on social media for this. However, I don't blame Google, I blame the people too stupid to know the difference between him and the Lost Prophets singer.
The ISP's are only doing this in response to the government's "do it yourselves or we will legislate" campaign. They are doing it so they can go to government and show them evidence of what an expensive failure this blocking is.
On another related note, if you read the description of the BT parental control categories, this one is particularly worrying.
"Sex Education will block sites where the main purpose is to provide information on subjects such as respect for a partner, abortion, gay and lesbian lifestyle, contraceptives, sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy."
I fail to see what good would be served to block that kind of information.
