I'm sorry, I thought you were arguing for middle ground between the maximalists and the abolitionists. We only began a crusade for abolishing copyright since the maximalists are demanding ever increasing enforcement and longevity.
Balance for what? Copyright was intended to reflect the intense labour inherent in creating the work in question, like scribes creating bibles. Today, there is no intensive work involved in creating copies, so remind me again why copright has been extended while the labour required to make copies has lessened?
Try a program called Handbrake, under Audio, you can mix-down to a more compatible quality for your particular system (good rule of thumb is target a level of quality known to playback to your liking). It is more than likely the built-in codecs in VLC might not be completely supported on your hardware.
With Handbrake you can convert the .mkv file to almost anything of lesser quality than the original, and potentially more compliant with your system.
I gotta kinda agree with 'that one guy' below, just let the whack job think he's won, click Report, and move on. Out of 31 replies, now 32, nary a handful are relevant. I've been profiling users online for 15 years, and this whack-job is never going to be satisfied with any answer anyone gives unless it fits into his reality distortion field.
Even I have fallen bait to this psychopath.
OT: I have colleagues all over the world and everyone of them can confirm that not only has the USA fallen from the grace of our peer's eyes, but fallen mightily. I renewed my passport JIC this country is overrun by psychopaths, and I too can run to Ecuador. It's refreshing to know there is at least ONE country not suckin' the ball sack.
Well, a Mac Mini hooked up to a 52" LCD, with an Aiwa 5:1 sound system played the 1080p 2D extended version of mine just fine. No 3D TV, no Blu-Ray player, no horny paper headache-maker glasses, no physical media whatsoever, just a nice clean .mkv file. I paid more for the popcorn, VPN and Internet than the Pocahontis, er, Dances With Wolves remake.
Like, how big is the market for 3D? Don't you need a 3D TV, and the high-end headache maker goggles? So, not only did they limit the target audience, they waited 3 years to release it? And they call that a business model?
And then they are absolutely baffled why people download it for free.
