Being almost in the heart of some of the riots, I can assure you Nicedoggy, that most of the rioters were opportunists. you can see this by the some of the texts and other messages that have come to light, plus the specific targeting of shops with valuable goods, all others were pretty much left alone.
I agree, our political system is 'stuck' pretty much like the USA, we need a new political system, not just a new bunch of MPs. We do need something to help young people just starting out in life, it doesn't help that university fees are about to rise 3 fold, and there isn't much help for people wanting to start a small business from scratch.
There is a big difference here Lobo, in Libya it's pretty much civil war, in Syria it's been peaceful demonstrations by the populace, with the police shooting peaceful protesters.
Here in London, most of the rioting was greed motivated, gangs and other eejits took full advantage of the police being slow off the mark, to smash and rob stores of valuable goods like tvs, watches, jewelry, phones, trainers. Some small shops were even robbed at knifepoint or threat of being beat up.
No copyright, that would suit me just fine, I've been making a very good living off of my games sales for many years now. All without using copyright, I know I have it, but enforcing it doesn't make a blind bit of difference. Copyright doesn't give you the ability to sell more than one item. Putting together a decent business model does though. And yes, my games have been pirated many times. So what ?
Re: Auther does not know about patents or software engineering !
Yeah, I thought you'd probably be one of those stuck up egotistical 'software engineers' who think there better than the rest of us 'real programmers'. Let me tell you that in my 30+ years of programming, most of the 'software engineers' I've worked with couldn't code their way out of a paper bag. They tend to be formally taught graduates and generally rely on pre-existing algorithms rather than use their creativity to create new algorithms.
A method is obvious if after some brainstorming and coding we come up with the same method without referring to the disputed method. I've had this happen many times, mainly in the 3D graphics field, where most algorithms were discovered in the 60's. When I was teaching myself 3D programming, I worked out how to perform the basic calculations all by myself, then found out 6 months later that most of my algorithms already existed!
All this rioting isn't really political, it's a bunch of yobs mainly looting and robbing and generally taking advantage of the chaos. I live around the corner from where some of the action has been, and I can assure you that the only shops that were touched have some value such as electronic goods, jewelry and bicycles.
Regarding the BB and other social media I have to disagree with you on this one Mike, the police are'nt saying that the tech is responsible, they're just stating that was what was used. They are also saying that the tech is useful to them to capture the yobs by posting pictures on Flickr and trawling through tweets etc. So far they've had 3,000,000+ vistors helping identify the culprits.
I'll bite: Depends on how much it cost to design, market, manufacture and store. You could be a carpenter at home who doesn't pay for design or marketing and knock it out for £100 say to a friend or passerby. However, most furniture sellers spend money on design and marketing etc.
And it's exactly the same for music, you can spend £30,000 on making an album, or you could spend £100.
As a coder, I know what you mean, but if they've just been hooking up to the signal output from standard DVD players, then the signal has already been decoded and is being sent in a TV/monitor friendly format ready for display, this would then need to be re-encoded for internet transmission.
Also, it seems to me from what DandonTRJ was saying, is that the definition of distribution lies with the physical object (DVD/DVDPlayer) leaving your possession and off the premises.
Too damn right. I've been thinking for a while now that we should wipe our current political system and start afresh based upon the 'Jury Service' type of election. Those who want to be in power should never be allowed anywhere near the reigns of control.
There would be a lottery every 2(?) years say, in which random cross segments of the population are put into government.
