Vivato: Shaken And Stirred Up

There’s been a ton of hype surrounding the Vivato WiFi switch product that promises widespread WiFi coverage from a single box. However, it sounds like the company may be experiencing it’s own problems right now. A new report in Unstrung says that they’ve laid off 10% of the staff and “tweaked” the management team. The company claims it was too heavy on engineering types, and one of the casualties is the co-founder and CTO. The rest of the shifts are all “engineering-type” VPs, so you can see that there must have been some conflicts over who had authority over what. The company says they’re looking to rebalance the company with more marketing people to help alleviate the engineering heavy company. The report also mentions that while they’re ramping up production on the 802.11b switch, they’re putting new product development attention on an 802.11g version, which shouldn’t surprise anyone.
