Microsoft Worth More than the Netherlands

from the yes,-but-it's-not-as-fun-to-visit dept

Apparently, Microsoft is now worth more than the Netherlands and is the first company to be worth over $500 billion. Just thought it should be noted.

    GDP does not equal value

GDP is a measure of the *single annual* economic outputs less inputs of a country, and *excludes the value of existing assets*.

Microsoft's market capitalization is the expected sum of the present value *all future annual* expected revenues less expenses plus it *includes the value of existing assets*.

The value of the Netherlands would significantly exceed it's GDP.

Ah, an excellent point from someone who at least took the time to read the article more carefully than I. Too bad they didn't want to show their name.
