Now Is The Time To Tell Your Senator That Privacy Is Awesome And CISPA Is Not
from the speak-up dept
While we know that at least Senator Ron Wyden understands why CISPA (and related cybersecurity bills) are bad, there are still 99 other Senators who don’t seem quite so clear on the matter. And they’re about to vote on such bills very, very soon. A bunch of groups have set up a site called Privacy is Awesome to help you contact your Senator today to let them know that you do think that privacy is awesome, and you won’t accept them voting to take away your privacy via overly expansive cybersecurity bills like CISPA or the other bills the Senate is considering.

I recommend that everyone share this with friends and family. Use Facebook and Twitter and any other social networks you are on. We stopped SOPA and ACTA, its time to stand up once again and be heard loud and clear. Maybe after we do this enough times the message will get through their thick skulls.

Re: Spread the word
ACTA isn’t stopped yet, not by a long shot…

Mike’s got 99 problems but Ron Wyden ain’t one.
Troll-Lander 4: The Thickening
Generic Politician: We know privacy is awesome! That’s why we keep trying to pass laws like ACTA, TPP, CISPA, and (the next one) without telling you! It’s because we believe in privacy, especially our privacy from snooping over-worried citizens like you. Can’t you see we’re all on the same page here? Well, looks like you’re out of time for today. My secret service agents will show you out. Goodbye, and thank you for your support.
Senator Merkley
I don’t recall seeing anything indicating Senator Merkley’s (the junior Oregon senator) stance on CISPA, but he usually follows Wyden’s lead when voting. He’s probably another guy we can count on to vote against CISPA.
Works in theory...
Neither of my Senators are up for reelection this time around, so they’ll vote their wallet just like most voters do.

It’s like the ColbertPAC, but with less truthiness, I guess. Still, if it is what is needed, I’m all for it. Maybe TechdirtPAC could give out medals for being awesome too (although I already got my e-mail for being awesome, so I’m good.) /s

This comment brought to you by AC #9’s chronically constipated sphincter.
It’s a damn crying shame that these people need to be told that. They should have known from the beginning.
Is it going to take another Million Man March, or would that be considered “terrorist activity” by today’s government like any other form of criticism or protest?
If Techdirt is morphing into a lobbying group, then at the very least it should be posting a copy of any proposed bill with which it takes issue, with an analysis of those portions against which it is lobbying.
Here is an idea. Why not start advocating the use of Kickstarter to raise money to support the election campaigns of those polititians who “get it”?

We are not.

We do post the bills and do highlight the points. Not sure your point. But we’re not a lobbying shop.
Here is an idea. Why not start advocating the use of Kickstarter to raise money to support the election campaigns of those polititians who “get it”?
Because we’re not a PAC, we’re not lobbyists and we don’t support election campaigns. We’re a blog and a research firm.
Besides, if you actually knew anything about Kickstarter, you would know that it does not allow political campaigns. But, you know, since your whole comment appears to come from a position of ignorance, I guess that’s not too surprising.
CISPA is more government infringement
Please vote NO to this abomination
Stop baseing information on IP addresses
I’m an American working and living over seas. It’s a shame that the link thinks I’m a foreigner and I don’t have a right to contact my senator.
Using my IP address as an indication of whether or not I am an American is a disgrace.
Yes I live overseas, but I still have the right to vote.
Somebody should call up their congressman and say, literally and in full Gandalf-voice:
“CISPA… SHALL NOT… PASS!!!”
I am sure Sen. Lieberman and Sen. Blumenthal from CT will listen to their constituents. LOLZ
