DailyDirt: More Clouds & Rainbows

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

Unusual cloud formations and strangely diffracted sunlight are fascinating phenomena, and more amateur photographers are capturing these ephemeral meteorological events all the time now. So instead of chasing chemtrail conspiracy theories, we can document weird-looking patterns in the sky and try to figure out how/why they happen. Here are just a few examples of some crowdsourced meteorology. If you'd like to read more awesome and interesting stuff, check out this unrelated (but not entirely random!) Techdirt post.

The most interesting cloud formation I ever saw was one that had an almost perfectly horizontal line above the horizon as far as I could see (limited visibility in the suburbs). It looked like a giant tidal wave was headed this way.

I snapped some photos of it, but they don't really capture the impression you got from seeing it in person.

    Re: cloud classifications..

Many. Although the clouds on other planets may be based upon chemicals other than water, methane for example.
