ESPN MVNO Might Finally Live?

Talk about taking their time… First rumored more than two years ago and then announced nearly a year ago, ESPN is at CTIA today saying that, no, really, they actually are going to launch their MVNO “on a limited basis.” Hey, we know that launching an MVNO isn’t quite as easy as some make it out to be, but it certainly seems like ESPN is taking their sweet time on this one. In the meantime, it’s still not entirely clear what advantage ESPN has in offering a full on MVNO rather than simply partnering with providers to offer content packages that make sense. Sure, some sports fans will be interested, but the most important thing to mobile phone buyers is still price and quality, rather than content. Who are you going to trust to have better quality? A well known mobile operator… or ESPN?
