Kodak's Digital Strategy Starting To Pay Off
from the turned-it-around,-did-they? dept
Kodak was clearly a business that had to change. While it's difficult for
any business to really embrace the fact that their cash cow core business is becoming obsolete, Kodak actually did so. While they had tinkered with digital photography over the past few years, a year and a half ago, the company decided that it was
really putting all of its emphasis on digital photography, and was no longer going to look at the analog film business as its core. While it hasn't completely made it through the fire, it does look like
parts of Kodak's strategy are really starting to pay off. They've become the number two inkjet printer seller in the world, thanks to their photo printers, and many of its other products designed around digital photography are showing decent growth. There's still a long way to go, and not everyone believes Kodak will be able to make it, but so far, it's turning into a fascinating case study in how to completely turn around your business by
embracing what people want, when technology makes your existing business models obsolete.
