Wireless Revenue Beats Land Line Revenue
While there have been stories about other countries where more people have mobile phones than there are landlines, the US has passed a revenue marker. There’s more household spending on mobile service than on landline service. This isn’t a huge surprise, given the trend lines. Fewer are buying into landline service, and with mobile service you often have multiple service plans into a single household, unlike fixed lines which traditionally were more shared. Still, for those companies relying on residential landline voice service for revenue, this should be the final warning (as if they missed all those other warnings) that that particular cash cow is on its last legs. Update: Meanwhile, some are saying mobile phones aren’t replacing landlines very quickly, but that the two are still being used in tandem. This fits with the above statement.
