Looking For A Spectrum Analyzer With Smarts
Quite an interesting article over at ZDNet UK noting as we move towards software defined radios, we’re going to start facing similar problems in the wireless world that now face computers today: namely malicious (or stupid) hackers doing things they shouldn’t do and screwing stuff up for everyone. As it stands, right now, it’s fairly difficult to figure out what’s going on in the air around you to help deal with these problems. There are spectrum analyzers, but they’re big, expensive and not particularly good. So here’s a suggestion for a spectrum analyzer that knows about network protocols and “that also has an expert system to help diagnosis and that can be linked into other management systems.” In other words, if we want to protect wireless spectrum usage we have to actually know what spectrum is being used for what.
