Will Reality Shows Boost Mobile Video Usage?

I’ve been pretty harsh on most mobile video applications – as it seemed that many were just weak attempts at throwing any kind of video on a mobile phone just because it could be done. Very few took into account whether or not users would actually want that content. However, the idea of using reality TV video streams to mobile phones seems a bit more interesting. These shows tend to build up a core, somewhat obsessive, fan-base who are always looking for more info on what’s happening. Allowing them to check in whenever they want has an appeal that fits with mobile usage – and doesn’t require them to be somewhere for half an hour or whatever to watch an entire show. If they tie it in with more interactivity, there’s a product that people might actually use.
