New Disney Space Ride Comes Complete With Real Life Nausea

from the sounds-like-fun dept

It’s no secret that amusement parks these days are creating ever more sophisticated attractions (often including ever more heart stopping drops). Disney has usually been a bit more creative with their attractions, and the latest one sounds like a doozy. They’re trying to replicate the experience of launching into space – complete with “nausea and brief moment of weightlessness”. The brief moment of weightlessness sounds cool, but the nausea isn’t particularly appealing. In initial runs of the ride, that queasy feeling became a little too strong for some, and ride attendants say they needed to “send for more towels” to help keep the floor clean. While that may be an endorsement for some kids these days, I think I’ll pass.

I wasn`t long until I learned I could go weightless for a few seconds by diving to just bellow Vne at full power and then pulling up into a steep climb (still under 30 degrees for all you FAA inspectors out there) and then at Vsi pushing over at just the right amount to maintain weighless… fun stuff. You’ll get 3 to 5 seconds of weightless if you do it right.

Of course when a C130 pilot does that to you and a cargo hold full of marines and an unsecured 150kilo tool chest, it`s not nearly and intersting or fun.
