Cometa Names New CEO
Cometa, clearly, has been one of the most overhyped WiFi startups in quite some time (despite founder Larry Brilliant’s claim that he was trying to keep the hype to a minimum). Brilliant surprised people today by announcing that Cometa has hired a new CEO, as Brilliant steps into the “vice chairman” role. Gary Weis, who had worked at IBM and AT&T takes over as CEO. No real explanation was given for the move. It seems a little early in the stage of such a company to move the founder out, so it could be a comment on how current Cometa investors have felt about Brilliant’s management.
