Powerline Broadband In The News Again

from the no-big-deal dept

I first read about the possibility of offering high speed internet connections over powerlines nearly 10 years ago, and every year or so, someone comes out with another article about this “amazing” possible source of internet access – and yet, nothing is ever deployed. Two years ago I pointed out that with every flurry of artilces on the subject, there’s a vast silence that follows concerning actual implementation. So, please, take with a grain of salt this latest Associated Press article talking up powerline internet access… yet again. What’s funny is that the article wants to say how wonderful this is, but even the details of the article show that some utilities are just testing it out, and no one has any idea if it will ever go anywhere. Wake me up when there’s a real deployment, with real people using it.
