The Camera Phone: A Case of Convergence Run Amok?

from the a-conversation dept

The New York Times (free registration req’d) is running an amusing conversation between two journalists about the value of camera phones. On one side you have the skeptic who just doesn’t see the need to mate devices in general and thinks the camera phone has no utility. On the other side you have a reporter who has gone out and actually talked to people using these devices. I’ve had similar debates with friends. On the surface it’s easy to take the skeptical view. What is harder is to look beyond your own perspective and think about what others might see as interesting, fun and useful. Ringtones are a great example. My phone is set to vibrate all the time. But people, especially kids, love custom ringtones.
