Techdirt Podcast Episode 125: Re-Decentralizing The Web
from the listen-up dept
One of the fundamental strengths of the internet has always been its decentralization, but over time we’ve seen a bunch of different forces start to distort this setup. This week, we’re joined by Jamie King, director of Steal This Film and host of the Steal This Show podcast to discuss the ongoing efforts to restore the decentralization of the web.

Too bad the people don’t want decentralization. They’d sooner nationalize the tech giants.
Re: Re:
What decentralization effort does this refer to? I can’t listen right now.
Most people don’t “want” decentralization because they’re not technical enough to have heard of it or understand it. They might use and even prefer decentralized stuff if it provides useful benefits to them.
Re: Re: Re:
It doesn’t refer to any specific decentralization effort (though Zeronet is mentioned early on).
Quite liked the episode, and am subscribing to the guest’s “Steal This Show”.
Will also comment that I believe that it’s important to breakdown the existing network effects of your competitors (e.g. avoid requiring the user to install software before it can be used), as is giving users a different reason to use the software other than “it’s private”.
