Cyclist Floyd Landis Accused Of Illegal Computer Hacking

from the doping-and-hacking dept

Apparently, a French court has issued an arrest warrant for cyclist Floyd Landis, who won the 2006 Tour de France, but then had the award stripped after he tested positive for abnormally high levels of testosterone, implying some kind of doping. Now, we’ve argued in the past that the line between drugs and other forms of performance enhancement is pretty blurry at times, but if you’re caught breaking the rules, hacking into the computers of the lab holding your test results in an attempt to discredit them certainly doesn’t look particularly sporting.

Landis Was Framed

The more you learn about the Landis case, the more obvious it was that he was framed. The results the French lab reported, even if properly obtained, and that is a huge if, would have been declared within regulations at virtually any other lab in the world.

If you didn’t know anything about the Landis case, if Landis was guilty, and he knew, it, what good would hacking into the lab do for him? How would getting at their records prove his innocence if he was actually guilty?

This is a case where the lab withheld and destroyed crucial evidence. I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Honesty is important in this world.People will forgive someone who admits they did it. But when you continually deceive everyone, you loose your credibility. How could Landis have gained 8 mins. back on one stage of tdf without doping? When pros are at the end of their career, they’ll try desperate things. Floyd Landis was a great cyclist, but his cover up no longer makes him a great champion.
