We’d already mentioned that among Josh Freese’s hilarious purchase options, someone had bought the $20,000 option — though no one was entirely sure who it was. Now it turns out that it was a 19-year-old high schooler in Florida, who claims that spending $20,000 on a week with Josh Freese was “totally worth it.” Freese seemed to go out of his way to make it into a great adventure for the kid, having him hang out with a bunch of rockstar friends, beyond just the “required” parts of the $20k option. They did, in fact, play mini-golf, though Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo couldn’t make it — so they made that up by having a pizza party at his house. We’re still waiting to see if anyone’s going to pony up for the $75,000 option…

You know, I was all ready to get behind this hysterical but insightful take on a business model…but am I the only one who read:

Josh said in an interview that it the kid has been going through some rough time and he even felt bad for taking that money from him. The kid spent his inheritance. Before you start bitching about things, you should do a bit of research here and there.

Research? Why? No one should spend $20,000 just to be with someone. They should get a life of their own. If I spent a week with Habitat for Humanity and donated the 20K, I know I’d feel better about myself than if I spent it with a famous person who probably didn’t even need the money.

Now… Before you go all hysterical on me… I have been on welfare for short bursts and gotten off. Last time was when I was between jobs. Now… I was only out of work for about 4 weeks. After I got the job, I got off the tit.
I am in no way defending the tool of a kid. He is an idiot. But 20k will do more for my family than it would for anyone else I know. Including the homeless people around my office building. They chose their fate as well… not my problem.

Why did you CHOOSE to go on welfare, seems pretty lame to me? I have NEVER chosen to take charity from my government, why did you make that choice? My guess is, for the same reason those people you have so much destain for made thiers.

I’ll admit I think it’s concerning, but… -shrugs- Like someone else said, (some) kids spend more than that to buy a car at 16, and at 19 he’s an adult in the eyes of the law. yeah, I would think twice about spending that much money on something so transient, but who am I to tell someone else how to spend their money? Maybe Josh was the kid’s idol. I’d easily spend $20k to spend a week with my hero.

WTF, 20k fuck that I would rather spend it on a nice car, or better yet cover all of the other expenses that my scholarship doesn’t cover… Further more how does a 19 year old kid have 20k, I had a decent job when I turned 16, it would have taken me 2 years to save 20k and thats not spending a penny on anything…

And it doesn’t really matter HOW he has $20,000. Maybe he’s been saving all his birthday and Christmas money since he was 8. It’s his money and he’s allowed to do what he wants with it.

This is just a response to two people:
To AA @4:16 pm, its HIS money, let him do whatever he wants with it. I guarantee you, there are a lot of people who would spend $20k to have been able to hang out with the Beatles or another huge band. Yeah, its not exactly the same, but this kid probably likes them more than the Beatles, so let him spend his money however he wants.
To AC @5:50pm, you’re an idiot. Have you ever looked into Habitat? To have people start building you home, you have to spend 2,000 hours building other people’s homes. Thats 1 full year of serving other people. It also helps you because after you’ve spent a year building other people’s homes, you now have skills to get a construction job. And, the people aren’t just given the house for free. They have to pay for it (granted its much cheaper than buying a new home, but they still pay for it). Of all of the organizations that help poor people, I like Habitat because they don’t just give people stuff.

I live off the government and I don’t feel the least bit of a piece of shit life. I don’t need a lot to live the life since most of everything is free. Also I’m putting the governments money to good use rather than them saving it up for gullible expenses with ridiculous reasons on corrupt management. US is a prime example of why the economy there has gone to shits.
