Congress Critters Invest In Big Companies; News At Eleven

Red Herring is reporting on the question of where our elected officials invest their own money, noting that an awful lot of it has gone into tech companies. For example, the second, third and fourth most invested in company among Congressional members are Cisco, Microsoft, and Intel, following on GE, which had the largest number of lawmaker investors (88). Of course, the number of investors doesn’t necessarily say how much is invested, as Apple leads on that list, with Congressional members having put somewhere between $6.4 million and $31 million into Apple. Elected officials only need to give a range for their investments, hence the large spread. Of course, all of the info in the article isn’t really all that enlightening, as the companies that these folks are invested in are basically the same as you would find on a list of the biggest companies in the US. So, basically, our Congress critters invest in big companies, many of which are in the tech industry. That’s not particularly surprising.

I have a college Polysci homework assignment– I was just wondering, if someone can point me to the impeachment forms casually thrown around during those times when congresspeople have had a few too many, and want their way.
I just want to look at them and see what it all entails. I’m a little leary of providing an email address in a public forum, but if someone has a link, it would be interesting.

Your being silly. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio introduced at least one (Maybe two) bills to get Cheney and Bush impeached for entering Iraq under false pretense, and each time they were referred to some black hole called the “Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties.” A new attempt to impeach based on, let’s say, placing a bet against the US economy is laughable at best. Consider previous attempts– even revisiting Iraq issues would require a great deal more solid evidence. How would you even overcome H.RES.333?
Think it over. Your being silly. Please go get some sleep, and just make sure you vote this year.
And if you know anyone in Ohio, make sure they vote the way Dennis Kucinich would.

That takes gumption! There’s an article on Page D1 and D4 in today’s Wall Street Journal, and as I was reading your comments, I was thinking of that article.
I suppose my cautious advice is to make sure it’s what you want to do. If you make that decision– to go forward, that is, don’t let anyone stop you, and accomplish it, completely.
Of course, it’s why policy decisions are made, as they impact the stock price of the big companies, and impact their even deeper partnerships with many of these ‘investment companies’ and other trusts.
I mean do you seriously think the Government keeps pot illegal because they care about health or it’s impact to society? Or do they keep it illegal because it would bury half the demand for pharmaceutical pain killers? When you take into consideration that you can Overdose even on Aspirin, but not pot – it seems a bit ‘fishy’ that pot would be illegal for ‘health’ reasons, and when you look at Alcohol’s impact on society in terms of drunk driving and domestic violence compared to pot’s, you can’t argue a second it’s for the ‘good of society’. It’s about the money.
That’s just one of many examples, that’s just one that’s pretty blatant.

need to be kicked out ASAP. All of them (with jjst a few exceptions on both sides of the isle)
It is not surporising that so many of them support patent “reform” efforts by the CPF and BSA members: patents, if used properly, are supposed to help small underfunded startups to compete with huge multinationals like cisco
I would requore all of the congress critters who invest in large tech multionationals to also put some sizsable money of their own into small tech statups
That would help congress members uinderstand the current situation with tech upstarts abnd VC investment a little better…
Monopolistic practices
No wonder Microsoft got off with a slap on the wrist. Congresscritters who own part of the company aren’t going to want to make a big stink when it’ll lose them money.
