MySpace Just As Good As Facebook For Catching Dumb Kids

from the the-cops-have-the-internet-too dept

Facebook is growing as a law enforcement tool, particularly at colleges and universities, where administrators and police use it to keep tabs on students’ misbehavior (inevitably followed by retaliatory pranks). MySpace is in on the act now, too, after police near Boston used it to track down some graffiti artists. The kids — who maybe got exposed to too many fumes — had helpfully uploaded pictures of their work and their tags to the site in a group called “Graffiti Artists”. MySpace has taken the blame before for stupid kids, but it sounds like these mental giants figured out how to get caught all on their own.

MySpace

I hate to flame myspace…wait, no i dont. iv actually been called “computer stupid” and a noob because i DONT have a myspace account. first of all, myspace is anything but private. if someone is stupid enough to use it in the first place it is not hard to believe that they would be stupid enough to brag to all their digital “friends” (who are just as likely to be cops) of all the stupid illegal crap they do so that everyone can see just how cool they really are. if you really have nothing better to do than AIM your friends to tell them how bored you are, fine. But MYSPACE?!? if you really want to have your number of “friends” be your defining characteristic, gripe about your life to anyone sad enough to actually read your blog and show the world your impressive lack of discretion, dignity, maturity, productive activities and REAL social life i thought thats what high school is for.

Since day 1, I have absolutely disliked Myspace. Why? It’s extremely pointless. I do use Facebook, but for the simple fact that you can connect to people enrolled in the same courses as you (hence, if you miss class and haven’t had the chance to meet ppl in the class, you can sort who is in the class and find out what you missed). I have no idea why ppl are so possessed to view what has been on ppls minds all day long, have your eyes damaged by the static background and the dynamic html scrolling over it, glittery symbols that announce you are a “sexy girl”(and you wonder why parents don’t trust their teen daughters), etc… While “Tom” has some web design skills, I think he should apply it to something else. Read this article, it’ll make your day:

Gross, just gross

I don’t understand what people can use those websites for. Facebook is like Myspace, but more private and a button that asks you what school and courses you attend. Yes it can be useful for keeping in touch, but don’t people talk to each other in person anymore? It seems like everyone is shy to talk in person, I MISS THOSE DAYS. Too many people glued to the computer, truly sad…
