Will Retired Baby Boomers Revitalize Open Source Projects?
from the giving-back dept
Bob Cringely’s latest theory is that as baby boomer techies start retiring, many of them will start contributing heavily to various open source projects. The idea is that their skills are still relevant, they’ll want to do “something” and working on open source projects is sort of a way of “giving back” to the community. I do know some retirees who have been busy hacking away on things for fun and for the community — so there’s at least some truth to this — but you have to wonder just how many will actually want to do this. Some might, but will the impact really be as big as Cringely implies?

Revitalize?
Whats to revitalize? Open source has never been better as far as I can tell. Some retired techies pouring time and money into OSS projects will help for sure but its not things are going badly for OSS
