Mobile TV Film Festival In Cannes
The existing international content trade show, MIPTV has added a special awards ceremony for video content created specifically for Mobiles. While not the first such show (we’ve seen other examples, such as “The World’s Smallest Film Fest” and such), the international show in Cannes just is another example of how some creative minds are developing content specifically for the mobile channel. While Mike and I disagree somewhat on the prospects for mobile video, Techdirt firmly believes that if it does succeed, it will be from content that takes advantage of the medium, not from re-purposed or straight-up broadcast TV. In the running for prizes are entries from Looney Tunes, Sesame Street, and of course “Topless Boss”. Audio Content: Meanwhile, as video moves forward, so too does audio. Cingular announced a deal with Major League Baseball wherein MLB audio and video content will be available using MobiTV technology. Cingular cusomers can tune 30 different real-time audio feeds each day, with each team’s home announcers. After the game, video clip post-game highlights will be available. Sounds like a good and efficient marriage of audio and video, but Mike Looked at MobiTV’s baseball offering at Sprint PCS last May, and was shocked at the high pricing of the content.
