TiVo And Comcast Looking To Rekindle The Romance?
from the rethinking-the-deal... dept
It was just a few months ago that the NY Times ran a big story about how TiVo walked away from a deal with Comcast that left many TiVo fans gasping in horror, as they couldn’t understand how a company that was clearly losing its one major channel partner could so easily pass up a deal with another. This news came out just days after TiVo’s Mike Ramsey announced plans to step down. The Times piece makes it clear that the plan to ditch the Comcast deal was Ramsey’s. So, now that he’s stepped back (he’s still there, they still haven’t found a replacement), the news is coming out that the two companies may be near a new deal, which would be big news for TiVo. The company still has the brand recognition, and has managed to out innovate just about everyone else (and seems like the only PVR provider who actually figured out some of the interface). It may not be enough to save TiVo long term, but it certainly gives them a bit of breathing room. Update: The deal is now official.
