On Heels Of Sidekick Security Flaw News, T-Mobile Makes Obvious Choice

Hot on the heels of the steady recent news of Danger Sidekick security breaches and other mishaps, T-Mobile Germany is making the appropriate tough decisions, and… will begin selling the Danger Sidekick device to their customers in Deutschland. But why is this the obvious move? Because the Sidekick is an undisputed hit and a growing market success for T-Mobile USA. Danger said that 3B instant messages were sent to or from its Hiptop devices in 2004 – that drives a lot of carrier revenue! Despite recent security lapses, the security breaches of the Sidekick’s celebrity users like Paris Hilton have apparently done nothing but increase the profile of the device. (For the sake of clarity, Danger is the company, “Hiptop” is the name of their device, and T-Mobile markets it as the “Sidekick”, but more recent success has been with the second version “Sidekick II”.) Increasing on the eight carrier partners they had in 2004, Danger recently announced a handful of new partners such as Fido in Canada and KPN in Holland.
